About us

Rooted in Tradition. Growing with Purpose.

Nestled in the rolling hills of Augusta, West Virginia, Bigg Riggs Farm is more than a farm—it’s a legacy five generations strong. Our family has cultivated this land for centuries, ever since our ancestors became the first to grow fruit trees in Hampshire County before the Revolutionary War. My great-grandfather chose this spot for its rocky soil, knowing it would produce fruit with unmatched flavor. Today, you can still find my grandfather out in the orchards, picking peaches just like he did decades ago.

Even while serving two combat tours with the U.S. Marine Corps in Iraq, I knew I’d come home to farm. Between patrols and sandstorms, I told my fellow Marines stories about life back in West Virginia—the long days, the laughter, and the lessons the land teaches you. It was those same brothers-in-arms who inspired the idea that changed everything:
“Capture the taste in a jar.”

When I returned home, that’s exactly what we did. From our orchard and fields came Bigg Riggs Farm—a collection of hand-crafted, small-batch products that bring the bold, natural flavors of Appalachia to tables across the region. What started as a family fruit stand has grown into a mission to share a true taste of West Virginia—one jar, one story, one handshake at a time.

Our Commitment to the Land

At Bigg Riggs Farm, we believe good food starts with good soil. Our farming philosophy is grounded in sustainability, innovation, and respect for the earth. Every practice we use is designed to care for the land that has cared for us for generations.

Our farming practices include:

  • Sustainable Crop Rotation: Maintaining soil fertility and disrupting pest cycles by rotating crops each season to ensure long-term productivity.
  • Water Conservation: Using efficient irrigation methods that reduce waste and protect local water resources.
  • Composting & Soil Enrichment: Turning organic waste into nutrient-rich compost that strengthens the soil and supports healthy crops.
  • Integrated Pest Management (IPM): Combining natural, cultural, and mechanical techniques to manage pests safely—without harmful chemicals.
  • Community Support: Partnering with local markets, farms, and suppliers to strengthen the local food system and keep our region thriving.

The Heart of Bigg Riggs

Farming isn’t easy work—but it’s honest work. Each apple, peach, plum, pear, and cherry we grow carries a story of perseverance, pride, and passion. From dawn harvests to early morning drives to the farmers’ market, we pour our hearts into everything we do—because this isn’t just our livelihood.
It’s our heritage.
It’s our home.
It’s Bigg Riggs Farm.
